Let’s make our morning quick and easy with Mixed Berry Smoothie Prep!
Getting ready for a busy week ahead equals loads of meal prep for all of us, but do you ever consider meal prepping a morning mixed berry smoothie?
My favorite morning go-to is a protein collagen rich mixed berry smoothie. Sometimes it’s strawberry, sometimes it’s blackberry. Really it’s just what ever I have in the house, but it always contains 4 ingredients. Milk, yogurt, protein-rich collagen and fruit. Ok, sometimes I’ll throw in some peanut butter, because who doesn’t like peanut butter?
While smoothies are quick and easy, I just don’t always have the time. Thus, meal prepping my mixed berry smoothies became a thing.
For this recipe, I’m using the last of the berries in the fridge. You know, when you don’t have enough for a compote or sauce and barely enough for on top of your cereal. This is the perfect time for mixed berry smoothie prep!
Grab your ice cube trays, ingredients and let’s go!
Time needed: 10 minutes.
Mixed Berry Smoothies
- Prep Your Mixed Berries
After washing and cleaning your berries, dice your strawberries and blackberries depending on their size. Place two blueberries or two pieces of strawberry or a single blackberry in each ice cube section. Lucky for me I had three trays so I made a tray of each berry.
- Prep Your Smoothie Mix
Mix together your milk, yogurt and protein powder of choice.
- Make Your Frozen Mixed Berry Smoothie Cubes
Pour this mixture into each section until full. Repeat until all are covered. Freeze until solid.
- Store Your Mixed Berry Smoothie Cubes
Remove from molds, you may need to run warm water on the underside of the tray in order to loosen them before inverting and tapping to remove the cubes. Store the cubes in an air-tight container in the freezer until ready to use.
Make Your Mixed Berry Smoothie!
In order to make your mixed berry smoothie, you will need to add additional liquid in order to blend the cubes. I use my hand blender and it actually fits right into my blender bottle. I fill my blender bottle with enough cubes to the midpoint. Then add liquid, milk in my case, until all the cubes are covered. Obviously, the thickness of your smoothie depends on what YOU like.
- If you want one of those beautiful smoothie bowls, add less liquid at blending.
- If you want it thinner than me, add more.
- If you want to save more time, blend your mixed berry smoothie mixture with your fruit and pour it that way into your ice cube trays. Just make sure to measure out the fruit ahead of time so you get the right ratio. Then all you really have to do it let those cubes defrost in your blender bottle.

- 2 cups whole milk or milk alternative
- 2 cups plain or vanilla yogurt of choice
- 2-4 scoops protein powder I used Great Lakes Collagen
- After washing and cleaning your berries, diceyour strawberries and blackberries depending on their size. Place two blueberries or two pieces of strawberry or a single blackberry in each ice cube section.
- Mix together your milk, yogurt and protein powder of choice.
- Pour blended mixture into each ice cube section until full. Repeat until all are covered.
- Freeze flat until solid.
- Remove from molds. You may need to run warm water on the under side of the tray in order to loosen them before inverting and tapping to remove the cubes. Store the cubes in an air-tight container in the freezer until ready to use.
- In order to make your smoothie, you will need to add additional liquid in order to blend the cubes. Add desired amount of smoothie cubes, then add liquid until all the cubes are covered. Blend. Add more liquid as required depending on thickness.
- Add less liquid to make a smoothie bowl.
- Save more time by blending it all and freezing it that way.
