Sunday Brunch? Yes, please! Now that one of our sons lives in the city, we love making every excuse to visit him. Ok, just kidding 🤣 I don’t need an excuse because umm Foodie here, Seattle and our son.
Sunday brunch is really the perfect get-together meal in my opinion. Seriously, right?
- You don’t have to get up obscenely early. Because who wants to do that after a Saturday night?
- Two, you can have breakfast…or lunch…or both!
- And last, you have an amazing amount of the day left to hang out…or not!
A little research on the interweb, a scan of my favorite Seattle Foodies, @seattlebites and @findmeinseattle, and we settled on Portage Bay Cafe. After making our reservation via Yelp the night before, when we arrived to a long line we were seated right away and opted for their outdoor seating area complete with heat lamps and blankets draped over our chairs. How cool is that?
I really recommend you make reservations for any Seattle restaurant you can or arrive early enough and be prepared to wait, because loads of peeps like brunch in Seattle. We choose the Portage Bay Cafe in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle because of their four locations, this one had the time that fit our schedules.
Caffeine and OJ were ordered quickly as we perused the menu. Ok. I kinda did that the night before, because that’s just what I do. I used my time to watch the plated food as it passed our table to help me make a final decision.
Luckily, we are family and we aren’t afraid to steal forkfuls and tastes off everyone else’s plates! What did we settle on??
Josh went for the Bananas Foster French Toast. Classic French toast, the kraken rum & caramel sauce, sautéed organic, fair-trade bananas, powdered sugar garnish.*
For this texture eater, you had to know that it was the Oatmeal Cobbler French Toast for me! Classic French toast, oatmeal-crumb crust, local three-berry compote, lemon creme a glacier, powdered sugar garnish.*
Michael is an Benedict lover, so he decided on the West Coast Benedict. 2 poached, organic site res farm eggs, fresh organic spinach and sliced tomato, avocado salsa, fresh hollandaise, served atop an organic house-made, Yukon gold English muffin, with organic, herb roasted potatoes.*
Yes, two sides of hills pepper bacon completed our tableful of yumminess.
As you can only imagine, we quickly dug into this flavorful menagerie. Perfection in every bite. Seriously, the flavors and textures just bounced around in my very happy mouth. Both French toasts were balanced with just the right amount of sweetness for me. Michael gave his Benedict two thumbs up 👍🏻. I loved that I could snag some bites of his wonderfully seasoned herb potatoes or grab a piece of crispy bacon to balance out my foodie palate.
I say, go-for-it peeps! If you are headed into Seattle or already make it your home, Portage Bay Cafe has my vote for a great Seattle brunch!
